5 of the world’s most unusual watches

A timepiece should be something you proudly wear on your wrist and for some of us, we want more than a simple leather strap and metal analogue face.

We want watches that scream style and not only tell us the time but the temperature, wind speed and our heart rate all at once. A watch that walks the dog and boils the kettle automatically when we think about having a cuppa would be good, but we’re not quite there technology wise. One day maybe…

So in your search for the functional but unusual timepiece take a look at these five fantastic watches, which break the boundaries for design and will make a real impression on your wrist:

5. WeWood

Are you sick of that leather strap that breaks after lots of wear or the metal one that tarnishes over time? Then it’s time to get back to nature and opt for a wooden design, which in turn complements any outfit with its neutral colour.

WeWood watches are a good example of great wooden designs and are created only using wood from remnant pieces that would otherwise be destroyed, the watch functions like any other with removable links and even has a water resistance display. Click here to view the brand’s range.

4. eone

Named after Bradley Snyder, an ex-naval officer who lost his eyesight in an explosion whilst serving in Afghanistan, the Bradley watch is an example of unusual but brilliant design. The clock is designed so you don’t need to look at the watch face to check the time, instead by touching the raised hour markers and small ball bearings, which move around the side and inside of the face, you can work out the hour and minutes.

3. Nuvati

Have you ever looked at a watch and thought, ‘I really wish this had pieces from the moon, Mars and space crystals just floating around in the face.’ Yes? Well, now you can have such a timekeeping accessory with the Nuvati watch.

Oh, and it only costs $595, which is actually pretty cheap considering it contains pieces from space inside – with the watch you receive official certification that the pieces are genuine.

2. Earth and Moon

Imagine the Earth and Moon, working perfectly together to show you the time in a small watch face. Well with this watch, designed by Alexander Sorokin, you can have all that in one stunning design. The exact time is synchronised by a satellite with the moon representing the hour hand and the shadow cast over the watch indicating minutes. For example, if it is 12.30pm then the moon will sit at 12 and the shadow will be cast over the right hand side of the dial. It might be a complicated way of telling the time, but it looks great!

1. Death watch

Want to know when you’re going to kick the bucket? Well now you can get your hands on a watch that apparently predicts – and then counts down – how many years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds you have left. Aptly named Tikker, the timepiece will probably induce some near death experiences when the timer is lower than expected.

The watch will predict your time of death, after you answer a questionnaire, and then subtract your age from the number it comes to. Don’t worry it does also function as a normal watch, with a digital display. Sounds like a really depressing concept doesn’t it? Well, it might just make you start living and make every second count. Literally.
